Dumpling, Jiaozi, in Chinese, is a traditional food in China. In past, only in New Year, some people had chance to take it as a symbol of everything going well in the coming new year. I am really into this food. Choping up meat and vegetables and mixing them together with sauce is the main part of the process. Then I will take much time on flour and make them into small pieces. I am really slow on cooking. Once I decided take dumpling as dinner, I would prepare it three hours ahead. But it is really good.
Wow, those look pretty good. I am a lover of food and of cooking myself, so I enjoyed this blog. I always eat dumplings when I have Dim Sum, one of my favorite treats. I think to make a dumpling is an art! What happened to your sponge cake has happened to me too with a cinnamon cake recipe, only I put so much baking powder in the mix that the batter rose higher than the pan and then it came falling down, like an erupting volcano, spilling all over the oven. That was a pain to clean. What was left in the pan and managed to bake, though, actually tasted pretty good, but the presentation was a nightmare.
ReplyDeleteWhat matters most is the process of preparing, especially with a big family in the same house, and a lot of hands helping. These dumplings look much better than those you find in supermarkets or restaurants. You are a great cook!
ReplyDeleteI love dumplings. In fact, Russians have a similar dish called "Pelmeni". The concept is the same - stuffing small dough circles by hands with meat, vegetables, cheese and many other ingredients. When I visit Russia my mom and I always make it, it's a great bonding time!
